“Independent Living available now!”
If you’ve come across senior living ads, chances are you’ve seen these callouts more than a few times. But what do they really mean? What’s the difference between Assisted Living and Independent Living, and how do you know which option is the best fit for you or a loved one?
Understanding Independent Living
Independent Living is designed for seniors who are active and self-sufficient. They don’t require daily assistance, but they may be looking to downsize with a more accommodating community.
Residents of Independent Living reside in private neighborhoods that offer maintenance-free living. Staff will take care of basic housekeeping tasks, such as cleaning out gutters and mowing the grass, while residents enjoy a variety of social programs and activities. Some light meal options may also be provided.

At Trilogy, our Independent Living residents enjoy private apartments and patio homes that prioritize comfort and safety first. We utilize low ply carpets, flat thresholds at each doorway, large windows for natural light, and non-skid bathroom floors with walk-in showers to ensure A) a lower risk of falls, and B) a cozy, welcoming environment that truly feels like home.

Understanding Assisted Living
Assisted Living is recommended for seniors who require additional assistance with day-to-day tasks. Each resident has a dedicated support team ready to lend a hand with activities such as bathing, getting dressed, and using the restroom.
Residents of Assisted Living communities typically find home in rooms or suites that exist within a larger senior living community. As a result, they have access to round-the-clock medical care, medication assistance, and dietary services that are typically reserved for hospitals. They also enjoy community-centered events and programs designed to promote physical and mental wellbeing – from arts and crafts sessions to community trips into town.

At Trilogy, our Assisted Living services are bolstered by the strength of our staff. We’re proud to offer 36% more clinicians on-site when compared to the national average, which enables us to provide chef-prepared meals, resident-centered programs and activities, and 24/7 care and support.
