Many look forward to the traditions of the holiday season and togetherness with family and loved ones. However, if you have a loved one living in a senior care community, it might seem difficult to carry on with the traditions that your family member has always loved. It is important to know that living in a senior care community should not mean the end of family traditions. Here are some tips for keeping holiday traditions alive for your loved one and maybe even creating the perfect gift for them in the process.

Create a holiday book with your loved one. Bring in pictures of past holiday celebrations and create a festive scrapbook.

Light up the room. Adorn your loved one’s room with decorations and ornaments.

Make holiday cards together. Sending these cards to family members can bring an extra loving touch to the holidays of those you both care about.

Play Santa Claus. Allow your loved one to help you with gift ideas for family members. By bringing in a catalog or looking at a store’s website, you can provide them with a sense of importance. During this process, you might find out what your loved one wants as well.

Trim a tree. Join your loved one in the fun of decorating the campus trees for the holidays.

Sing carols. Bring holiday cheer to your loved one by playing their favorite seasonal music. Bring the lyrics so you can both sing along and record the songs you sing together. It can make a great memory and gift.

Plan a festive movie night. Buy your loved one’s favorite holiday movies and watch them together.

Spend precious time together. By taking the time to visit your loved one, you are not only showing them that you care about them, but that they are also still an integral part of your holiday season. This can be the best gift of all.

From making melted-snowman cookies and candy jeweled gingerbread houses to surprise visits from Santa, our campus has been full of merry moments and even merrier people this holiday season. We’ve loved listening to our residents reminisce about their Christmases as children, and we’re honored to be a part of their holidays. We invite you to stop by our campus and see how we’ve decked our halls and filled every corner with cheer!
