Welcome to the May edition of Leadership Spotlight! In this entry, we sit down with Todd Kiziminski, Vice President of Talent Acquisition, as he walks us through his Trilogy journey and commitment to Trilogy employees.

Tell us about yourself! You’re based out of Louisville – have you always been a Kentucky native?

I’m originally from Wheeling, West Virginia. If you’ve driven anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic, you’ve probably passed through it – but there’s no real reason to stop there unless you need gas!

I moved to Louisville in May of 1999 to work for TEKsystems, one of the largest Information Technology staffing solutions companies in the U.S., who is a part of Allegis Group, one of the largest staffing providers on the planet. Employees and culture are at the center of their success (much like Trilogy!) They’re a great training ground for a career in recruiting or sales.

I spent almost 15 years at TEKsystems in various leadership roles before moving in 2014 to be the Director of Recruitment, and ultimately the VP of Talent Acquisition, at Atria Senior Living.

What initially drew you to Trilogy?

In April of 2021, I was fortunate enough to have our Chief Operations Officer, Todd Mehaffey invite me out for a cup of coffee. I’d heard wonderful things about Trilogy over the years and figured, what the heck? Two months later, I was starting with the company.

What immediately caught my eye specifically though was the culture. Everyone I met had a consistent message – and that was the commitment to the mental, physical, and financial health of employees so that they can better support the residents they serve. It’s hard to sell the “why” without having a strong sense of purpose – and it was apparent to me that Trilogy had that from the very beginning.

Tell us about your role within the company.

I’m the VP of Talent Acquisition – which means being responsible for hiring the right people and making a positive impact on our residents and fellow employees.

The Regional Talent Partners, Executive Recruiters, HR Analytics, and Trilogy Flex Force are all invaluable parts of our delivery team – each carrying some lofty goals of hiring 750 employees each month and growing out Flex Force team to a strength of 200+.

I also have the privilege of leading the Workforce Planning team. And let me tell you, these people teach me so much. It’s like it’s my first six month “blue badge” period all over again – and I take advantage by asking them a lot of questions.

I couldn’t ask for a better team and executive support. This is truly the best place I’ve ever belonged – and I knew it would be from that first cup of coffee.

Tell us about Trilogy’s apprenticeship program.

The Trilogy Registered Apprenticeship Program has been around for over 6 years. Led by Jeanette Jones, it’s designed to help you advance your career at Trilogy while you earn more money through certifications. All apprenticeship programs can be completed in one year – and all full and part time employees are eligible to participate.

This is a huge part of our employee value proposition – and a vital portion of our turnover strategy. We’re proud to have an 83% retention rate for employees who have completed the program since the start of 2022.

We all want to learn – and earning more money along the way doesn’t hurt either!

What do you think sets Trilogy apart when it comes to attracting and retaining talent?

There’s little doubt that it’s our culture. It’s why I have no issues with sharing details of our recruitment and retention programs openly with others. Without a strong employee value proposition, a strong culture, and a commitment to standards (TSS!), our formula cannot be replicated elsewhere. My peers in the industry and their leaders cannot believe that a company of our size does not use external staffing agencies – and they cannot figure out how we do it! I tell them it’s our people and our commitment to our standards that can’t be manufactured. That is why employees who explore options outside of Trilogy often “boomerang” back to the Best Healthcare Company in the Midwest. I’m so glad to be here!
