In the minds of many, moving to a senior living community is the end of the road. It marks the end of making new friends or accumulating new experiences, and the start of days spent sitting around, waiting for dinner. Vacations are fond, faded memories, and there’s nothing really to look forward to, and no one to enjoy it with, if there was.
At our campuses, this couldn’t be farther from the truth!
Over the past several months, our communities throughout Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan have been embarking on their annual retreats. If you follow a Trilogy campus near you on Facebook or Twitter, you may have spotted photos of these incredible occasions. If you haven’t, here’s a breakdown for each division!
Central West Division
Communities in our Central West Division went ‘Bashin’ on the Wabash’ in Lafayette, Indiana, and spent several days touring the Haan Mansion Art Museum and historic Lafayette. They also were treated to dinner at the regal Moses Fowler House, where they dined off golden plates and had their pictures professionally taken.
Central North Division
Among the stately trees and calm waters of Bradford Woods in Martinsville, Indiana, our Central North Division embarked on their ‘Survivor Retreat’. They kicked back on pontoon boats, fished off the dock, explored the surrounding woods and topped it all off with a prime rib dinner. After watching it all unfold on their Twitter and Facebook feeds, it became very apparent that they did a lot more thriving than surviving!
Central East Division
To the east, roars, caws, and other animal calls greeted our residents at the Indianapolis Zoo for our Central East Division’s ‘Trilogy in the City II: Dining with Dolphins’ retreat. After they acquainted themselves with some new, exotic friends, our residents enjoyed dinner alongside a pod of dolphins, followed by a jazz concert in the zoo’s beautiful new Bicentennial Pavilion. One 90-year-old resident even rode a rollercoaster for the first time.
Southwest Division
162 residents and caregivers descended upon French Lick, Indiana for our Southwest Division’s ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ Retreat. Their numbers filled an entire hotel! Besides touring West Baden, taking a cruise on Patoka Lake, shopping, and trying their luck at French Lick’s casino, they still found time to dress up as their favorite Disney characters and enjoy a lavish dinner with a special guest list a mile long. In attendance was The Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, Cruella Deville, Ariel, and of course everyone’s favorite chivalrous heart-throb, Prince Charming himself!
North Indiana Division
Residents of the communities in our North Indiana Division took a trip back through time in Shipshewana, Indiana at their ‘Horsing Around in Shipshewana’ retreat. They learned how to make handmade pretzels, enjoyed lunch in the home of a lovely Amish family, and ended their evening with dinner at the Blue Gate Garden Inn and the Mennonite Girls Can Cook theatre show.
Southeast Division
Known as one of the most beautiful small towns in America, Madison, Indiana was the perfect place for our Southeast Division to hold their ‘Rockin’ on the River’ retreat. After a tour of Hanover College (including a photo-op with the Hanover Panther) the group checked into the beautiful Clifty Falls State Park Inn, where they had rooms overlooking the river. Dinner that night was accompanied by local rocker Rusty Bladen, and after a good night’s sleep, the next day was spent exploring Madison’s shops and enjoying a picnic.
South Kentucky Division
Kentucky residents celebrated their roots at their ‘South Kentucky Pride’ retreat at the Country Lake Christian Retreat Center. They rolled down picture-perfect country lanes in covered wagons, tapped their toes to live Bluegrass music, and participated in their very own HeeHaw Entertainment Show, a blast from the past many residents remember watching on Television. The evening was spent gathered around the campfire, roasting marshmallows and sharing stories.
North and Central Ohio Divisions
Both of our Ohio divisions made trips to Recreation Unlimited in Ashley, Ohio; a paradise for fishermen, crafters, adventure seekers, kids at heart, and professional relaxers. Between golfing, boating, swimming, fishing, eating, blacksmithing, and pottery and candle-making, our residents still found time to sit back and savor the fresh breeze off the water. Busy days make for hungry evenings, and a home-cooked dinner followed by s’mores around the campfire was the perfect end to a perfect day.
North Michigan
Our Michigan residents set up shop in the charmingly old-world Bavarian Inn and Lodge in Frankenmuth, Michigan for their ‘Enchanted’ retreat, and like the many-steepled inn itself, their activities were straight out of a storybook. Shopping and sight-seeing excursions were accompanied by carriage and paddle-boat rides. In the evening, residents dressed to the nines for the Enchanted Ball, where they were served a mouth-watering dinner while Frank Sinatra and Elvis sang and shimmied through the room.

After all the excitement, our residents are glad to be back home, where they can rehash their favorite moments with their friends and start planning for next year. In the meantime, their days will be anything but boring.
