The Phrase ‘Act Your Age’ is Not in Our Vocabulary!

At Trilogy Health Services, we believe that no matter your age, life is meant to be lived with excitement. It’s our goal to craft new experiences for our residents that give them the opportunity to discover something new, whether it’s a skill, a life lesson, or a friend. Our 2016 Divisional Retreats are the perfect example of our dedication to enriching the lives of those we serve. Wherever they gathered, whether it was at Notre Dame University, Michigan State University, Purdue University, Country Lake Christian Retreat Center, Indianapolis, Clifty Falls State Park, Recreation Unlimited, or Lakeside Chautauqua, residents had the time of their lives.

Many were reconnected with old memories. During visits to their old stomping grounds, MSU, Notre Dame, and Purdue University alumni regaled residents with stories from their college days. Others who grew up on or around farms took a tour of the MSU farm, which for most was less like an outing and more like a trip down memory lane. At our Kentucky retreat, one special couple relived their wedding day on their 62nd anniversary, surrounded by friends and the sound of bluegrass music.

There were a lot of firsts on our retreats, too, including but not limited to a 90-year-old resident purchasing her first ever bikini to take a dip in the heated hotel pool at the Clifty Inn in Madison, Indiana. Another resident had her toes painted for the first time in preparation for that evening’s dinner, and at the Marriott in downtown Indianapolis, another resident flopped back onto his bed in his first ever hotel room and sighed in bliss (while a roaring pillow fight ensued at a hotel miles away in Northern Indiana).

From wide open waters to hills dotted with trees, our retreats were full of views that speak to the soul. Many in Ohio armed themselves with fishing poles and made for the horizon, while others in Indiana took to the forest and were introduced to local wildlife. In Kentucky, rocking chairs along an expansive back porch were filled with those looking for peace and quiet, and the occasional birdsong.

In cities like Indianapolis and Madison, Indiana, the streets were dotted with smiling residents carrying shopping bags. Museums such as the Indiana State Museum, the Eiteljorg Museum, and others hosted residents eager for knowledge and a glimpse into their country’s past. Others who wished to tap into their creative side learned to craft candles, throw pottery, and paint. Everywhere, there was music – music played by members of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Purdue Men’s Glee Club, Bongo Boys Music, and in one instance, a song sung by one of our Divisional Vice Presidents, whose grandmother, also a resident, was in the audience.

Whether in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, or Michigan, residents returned to their campuses tired, happy, and full of memories they can cherish for a lifetime. At Trilogy, creating these experiences is both our purpose and our passion – that’s why we’re here.

Take a look at some of the fun had by everyone at Trilogy’s 2016 retreats!
