I am pretty happy with Briar Hill. My mom spends 8 days in the hospital before she comes in there, and she is pretty weak, but she seems to be a favorite among the staff. She’s having occupational and physical therapy every day. If they are making any kind of changes on her medication, her diet, or physical therapy, no matter how slight, they call me and let me know. I go there every day at different times so they don’t know when I will come. I don’t have to spend 6 to 8 hours a day there to see that she is properly taken care of. They are feeding her extra meals, and she’s having 5 meals a day. They are a full nursing home and when my mom’s assets are spent down, they do accept Medicaid. I still intend to bring her home if she is strong enough, but it is good to know that if I cannot bring her home, I think Briar Hill is a pretty good place. I think maybe because this is such a small town and they serve the community and a lot of the employees are from a small town, they are more answerable to the community than the larger places. I know they are part of a larger organization. There is a doctor’s office connected to the facility. They have a nice physical therapy area. I know they have different activities like arts and crafts, bingo, and they do church services. My mom is not able to participate in much of this stuff. However, I am glad that they have WiFi, and I bring a laptop in to my mom so she can watch documentaries and listen to podcasts.
