Heritage Residents Strike it Lucky in Wii Bowling Tournament

Findlay, OH (February 11, 2010) – Residents of The Heritage in Findlay are celebrating their team’s win in the 2010 Trilogy Bowling Tournament. The Heritage “330,” made up of team members, Walt Shindeldecker, Webb Fenbert, Dene Kuhlman, and Bob Rudisill were crowned champions of the company-wide event on February 5.

The team advanced through several brackets including campus level competition and divisional before advancing to championship competition. The team’s name comes from the members combined ages.

Team member Walt Shindeldecker shared the key to his team’s success: “Each individual bowled a little bit better each time and carried their weight for the team. Even if someone was having a bad game, we had a good time, laughed, joked, and praised each other throughout the competition.”

The Heritage is a Trilogy Health Services community. Trilogy currently operates 57 health campus locations throughout Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois and Michigan. Each campus recruited resident teams and staff teams that competed within their campus. Winners of the campus tournaments advanced to six Divisional tournaments. From there six divisional winning resident teams and staff teams advanced to the company-wide championship tournament. Tournament rules include no handicaps, with the scores of the best two out of three games used to determine the winners. The entire team is also required to bowl at the same time.

“Support for the tournament began at the top of our organization with our president, Randy Bufford,” stated Sarah Foster, Heritage Executive Director. “Our company has been a strong proponent of using the Wii in therapy and activities. Over the last couple years, we’ve incorporated the Wii into our therapy program and activity program in a variety of ways. We are thrilled that our resident team took top honors in our company tournament this year.”

The Heritage will host a campus wide celebration for The Heritage “330” during Family Game Night on April 27 at 6:30 p.m. During this evening, the team will be honored and presented with their championship trophy by Trilogy’s Divisional Vice President, Mike Lacey, and Ohio’s Resident Activity Support, Kate Kottenbrock. Throughout the evening, families will have the opportunity to go head to head in competition against the Wii bowling championship winners, Heritage “330.”

“The advantage of a Wii Bowling Tournament is that individuals of all capabilities can participate, regardless of physical limitations,” continued Ms. Foster. “Since the controllers are motion sensitive, residents do not need complex coordination that is required to play other video games. The only requirement is the ability to move their hand and arm - with or without assistance. Our residents had fun competing and trying an old skill in a new way. The tournament also helps build a sense of community in our campus.”
