Louisville, KY (May 12 2011) John Claxton has been a part of the Blair Ridge community since the independent and assisted living facility first opened its doors in 2001. As a member of the Dukes Memorial Hospital board of directors (who were initially responsible for the planning of Blair Ridge), Mr. Claxton understood the original vision for the property - to provide a comprehensive continuum of senior living services for the residents of Peru and the surrounding communities. With today’s opening of the Health Center at Blair Ridge Health Campus, that vision is becoming reality.
“The facility has been a long time coming,” Mr. Claxton commented. “Trilogy has more than lived up to the expectations. This is what was to happen when Blair Ridge was originally built.” Mr. Claxton currently serves on the Blair Ridge Health Campus Advisory Board.
Trilogy acquired Blair Ridge in June 2010 and began construction on the Health Center earlier this year. The Health Center will offer physical, occupational, and speech therapies, as well as related medical services to those requiring short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing or long-term care. Blair Ridge currently offers assisted living and independent living services. The health center will accommodate 55 residents.
According to Randall Bufford, President and CEO of Trilogy, “Our commitment to a servant leadership culture and our dedication to providing exceptional customer service that exceeds our customers’ expectations are the cornerstones of Trilogy’s operating philosophy. When you have great services, delivered by a dedicated and compassionate team of caregivers, in our ‘Village Center’ residential model, and throughout the campus, the result is a senior living experience that allows our residents to live a truly meaningful life.”
“We like to say you can feel the difference the minute you walk in the door of one of our campuses, and you see it everywhere you look,” Bufford continued. “From staff engagement and our focus on resident personal preferences, to the local flavors on our menus, and even the names given to our different residential hallways – everything at a Trilogy campus is focused on our customers’ preferences and helping them have strong social connections, engagement and purpose, while providing options for clinical care. Now our residents in Peru will have the benefit of enjoying all of this in our new health campus.”
The Health Center was built on Trilogy’s new “Village Center” residential living concept. The Village Center is the next step in Trilogy’s quest to provide senior living and health care services in a non-institutional setting. Private resident suites are arranged in small, neighborhood-like areas, rather than in longer, more traditional residential hallways. These neighborhoods surround the numerous common areas in the “Village Center” area, including a Sun Terrace, Living Room and Library, where residents can relax and visit with guests. Inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services will be offered in a state-of-the-art Health Club located in the Village Center. The campus will also feature an ice cream parlor and internet cafe. Watercolor painting, gardening, foreign language classes and discussion of current events are just a few choices on the day’s agenda for residents.
“I had the privilege of working at Dukes Hospital during the time that Blair Ridge was built,” stated Jackie Kuhn, Executive Director of Blair Ridge Health Campus. “It was the vision that the campus would someday have a skilled health center connected to the residential facility. I feel really blessed to be able to return to a community that embraces caring for our seniors. I have come full circle. What a joy and opportunity it will be to serve our residents, family members and community once again.”
The new services also mean the ability to continue to “age in place” for residents of Blair Ridge’s independent living villas and assisted living residence. Nancy Kuyoth, daughter of a current Blair Ridge resident commented, “There was a time in my Mom's life when Assisted Living was just not enough. When the decision was made to send her to Skilled Care, we were excited that Blair Ridge has the ability to take care of her. Safety is very important to me, and to know that there will be staff there 24/7 is awesome. The campus is beautiful and bright.”
“Everything about our campus is tailored to meet our residents’ needs and personal choices,” continued Ms. Kuhn. “Our health center is organized into neighborhoods allowing our caregivers and residents to establish long-term relationships where they can truly get to know each other. We carry that same resident-centered focus through to our activity planning, our menu selections, and other campus programs. We invite members of the community to join us at our Open House on May 15th to tour our new health center and meet our campus team members.”
