Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are a critical part of the caregiving team at any long term care facility. At Trilogy Health Services we have designed a special course for our nursing assistants called the Caregiver Preceptor Program.
The Preceptor Program was created to educate and empower caregivers to become leaders and trainers for new nursing assistants. Each Trilogy campus has four preceptors who assist with orientation and training of new nursing assistants. The outcome of the program is improved delivery of service to our residents, increased job satisfaction for the caregiver, and a decrease in employee turnover at the campus.
Caregivers must apply for participation in the Preceptor Training Program. To be accepted into the program the caregiver must have worked at Trilogy Health Services health campus for at least 6 months and must demonstrate superior work performance. They must also consistently demonstrate excellence in customer service, and be recommended by their supervisor. Upon completion of the Preceptor Program, the caregiver receives a graduation certificate and an increase in their base wage to reflect their new responsibilities. A press release is also provided to them for use by the campus for their local newspaper. This two-day program is offered twice a year.
Here are some comments from past Preceptor Program participants:
