Living With Purpose

An elderly woman and a young girl hold up blarney stones they have painted green, white and orange - the colors of the irish flag - over a green, white and orange flag background.

Aye, it’s that time of year again! Springtime showers soak our grass, clover springs from nowhere to cover our lawns, and all around the world the Irish and Irish at heart unite to celebrate the Feast of St. Patrick, or, as it is more commonly known, St. Patrick’s Day. If you, like us, are more likely to be enjoying time with your grandchildren instead of at the local pub, you’ll want to check out our list of St. Paddy’s Day activities for all ages!

A Little Green Icing Goes a Long Way
We’ve never known a grandkid to turn down a cookie, and these Shamrock Sugar Cookies are super simple (and super delicious!). Savoring a dessert that you’ve made together will be well worth the green fingers, green smiles, and possibly green countertops that you create along the way. Check out this recipe for Shamrock Sugar Cookies. *Tip: Let your younger helpers ice the cookies!

Gather Your Clovers While Ye May (and if the fickle weather permits)
Kids these days spend a lot of time in front of screens, and St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect opportunity to treat them to a different view. Turn off the devices and take your grandchildren on a hunt for four-leaf clovers! If you find one, press it between the pages of a book to preserve it (and the luck it holds) for future generations. *Did you know? The four leaves on a four leaf clover are thought to represent hope, faith, love, and luck!

Hide ‘n Seek – St. Paddy’s Style!
Who doesn’t love a game of hide ‘n seek? For St. Patrick’s Day, hide your own pot o’ gold and challenge your grandkids to find it. Your ‘gold’ can be real coins, fake gold pieces, or even a collection of candy!
*Tip: Let whoever finds the gold take a piece for themselves and hide it again!

Tap Into Your Inner Leprechaun and Get Crafty! AP Craft
A quick trip to your local craft store will be all it takes to stock up on anything and everything you need to create any St. Patrick’s Day Craft. Here are a few of our favorites!
Shamrock Sun Catcher
Crepe Paper Shamrock
Popsicle Stick Leprechaun Magnet

We wish you a very happy St. Patrick’s Day, and leave you with this Irish proverb.

“May your thoughts be as glad as the shamrocks.
May your heart be as light as a song.
May each day bring you bright happy hours that stay with you all the year long.”
