At our campuses across the Midwest, it was another week filled with tropical drinks, relaxing beach tunes, costumed staff and plenty of leis. This month’s Theme Week theme was ‘Cruisin’ to the Caribbean’, and, as is tradition, we went all out!
Every campus Facebook and Twitter feed was flooded with pictures of residents grinning in shades and tropical t-shirts while taking part in the Caribbean-themed activities. We had Happy Hours featuring live music, photo booths full of hilarious props, mobile Tiki Bars rolling up and down the hallways, and so much more. But the fun didn’t stop there – the staff at many of our campuses took the Caribbean theme to the next level.
During our previous Theme Weeks, staff adorned themselves in garb traditionally worn by sea captains and first mates. This time, things got a little saltier, and a whole lot more cutthroat! Our staff swaggered around their campuses, eye patches pulled over their eyes and bandanas tied roguishly about their foreheads. Many an “ahoy!” and “arggghhh!” were heard from our common rooms, along with plenty of laughter.
We wondered if a band of pirates had the skills to whip up a Theme Dinner worthy of a five-star cruise, but we should have known better – our chefs always steer us in the right direction! Caribbean Chicken and Dumpling Soup kicked off the multi-course meal, and was followed by Pork Lollipops and Crab and Tropical Fruit Seviche. Lemon Ice in a hand-carved lemon served as the perfect palate cleanser. For the main course, residents could choose from a Surf and Turf combo of Roast Pork Tenderloin and Grilled Shrimp, Mahi Mahi with Mango Salsa, or Jamaican Brown Beef Short Rib Stew. Those that saved room for dessert indulged in Banana Rum Bread Pudding and a Rum Ball. It was the kind of dinner a marooned pirate would dream of, and everyone was ready to sail the seven Z’s afterwards.
The week had been flooded with fun times and great friends, and our residents get to do it all again in October, when Trilogy Cruise Lines casts off for ‘Serenade on the Seven Seas.’ Stay tuned for a recap of the week, and in the meantime, make sure you’re following us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
