We’re right in the middle of Men’s Health Week which serves to raise awareness and encourage early detection and treatment of preventable health problems and diseases among men. Check out the tips and tricks below to stay healthy at any age!

Be a lean, mean, screening machine!
Getting regular health screenings is the best way to detect diseases and other health problems before symptoms occur. Important screenings for seniors include diabetes, depression, Hepatitis C virus, prostate cancer, colon cancer, high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure, HIV, lung cancer, skin cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, etc.

Drink smarter, not harder.
For those younger than 65, limit alcoholic drinks to no more than two per day. For those over the age of 65, have no more than one drink each day. 12-ounces of beer, 5-ounces of wine, and 1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled spirits are standard measurements for one drink.

Captain your ship across the seven ‘Z’s.
Adult men should receive 7-9 hours of sleep each night. Sleep deprivation can be linked to depression, obesity, and cardiovascular disease.

When it comes to your pills, pay attention!
Ensure that before obtaining a prescription, your doctor knows any and all medicines you’re taking. Do not be afraid to ask about possible side effects, proper dosage, other medications or substances to avoid, etc. Schedule a follow-up visit with your doctor to ensure that your medicine is working well and is not causing any harmful side effects.

Real men eat their veggies.
Achieve a healthy balance between calorie intake from food and drink and calorie output from exercise or other activities. Finding out your Body Mass Index (BMI) is the most accurate way to learn if you are at a healthy weight. Ask your doctor about a diet and exercise program that’s right for you!

Trilogy’s male residents and staff have the opportunity to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle and engage in fun activities when they participate in our Just the Guys programming. Through this program, we offer ‘the guys’ opportunities to connect with each other through interesting activities and outings! Whether they meet for an all-guys breakfast, bond over a friendly poker game, or take a fishing trip, whatever the guys choose to do, it’s an opportunity for them to just be guys and enjoy each other’s company.
