Last month, we took our residents back to the 1950s to “Rock Around the Clock” in our third Themed Dinner of the year.
With weeklong activities culminating in a rocking good time at our main event, residents certainly had a blast. The ladies made no-sew poodle skirts to wear the night of the big party and some residents even went to the onsite beauty parlor to get special do’s such as the poodle cut, soft and curly look, up-do, flat-top, crew-cut or ducktail.
For Happy Hours, campuses set up a soda shop and served root beer floats and malted milkshakes, or hosted a 1950s cocktail party. An extra special activity was our 1950s Drive-In Movie Night, where residents detailed their wheelchairs and rolled up to the big screen to enjoy some 1950s flicks.
On the night of the big event, our campuses were hoppin’ with our ladies dressed to the nines in poodle skirts and cat-eye glasses and gentlemen in jeans, leather jackets and Wayfarer sunglasses. Each were delighted at the chance to have their photos taken with The King himself, as Elvis made an appearance at many of our campuses to rock the night away with our residents and staff. Everyone had such a great time, with not a square in sight. We’re so happy all of our residents could make the scene!
