Residents had a “Swingin’ Good Time” as they traveled back in time to the 1940s for their second Themed Dinner of 2015.
To get everyone in the mood for a festive night of old time fun, week-long 1940s events were held at each of our campuses. There were screenings of popular 1940s movies such as Casablanca, Citizen Kane and It’s a Wonderful Life. Residents participated in activities such as themed jewelry designing, resident boxing, WWII presentations and more. We brought out games that were invented and become popular in the 1940s such as Dominoes, Marbles, Candy Land, Tiddley Winks and Chinese Checkers! There were even cooking events featuring War Era Waffles, Retro Recipes, and a Betty Crocker Cake Mix Group!
Special attention was given to residents’ costumes with some campuses even taking trips to local thrift stores to find the perfect ensemble for the evening. On the night of the big event, fedoras and pearls were provided to get residents in the mood, and the staff really impressed with their 1940s era costumes. Photo ops were also a popular part of the night as celebrities such as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin were present (in cardboard cutout form) to celebrate the 1940s with our residents.
All in all, it’s safe to say our second Themed Dinner of the year was a success, as our residents really did have a “Swingin’ Good Time!”
